Good food gets thrown away. We think that's a waste, not a rule.
Every day across Lagos, good food goes unsold. Restaurants and bukas end up with surplus meals: a few extra plates of jollof, meals made for a rush that did not come. Supermarkets end up with near-expiry groceries: bread, dairy, snacks and packaged goods nearing their best-before or expiry date, still safe and still good. At the same time, plenty of people are looking for good food and groceries that do not break the budget.
Chop Awoof connects the two. Merchants list what they have left at a real discount, instead of binning it. You get good food and groceries for less. Nobody has to guess, because the terms are disclosed up front every time.
Three steps. No surprises about the process.

Specific Offer or Mystery Bag?
Both get you real food at a real discount. The difference is how much detail is locked in before you pay. Flip the card below to see what's always disclosed on a Mystery Bag versus what stays a surprise.
You know exactly what you're getting
An exact item, at a discounted price, guaranteed. Often near-expiry groceries from a supermarket, or a specific dish from a restaurant. The listing shows the real product, the discount and the pickup window. No surprises, because there's nothing to flip.
What you'll always know
- Category (for example, rice dishes, baked goods or groceries)
- Minimum guaranteed value of the bag
- Possible contents the merchant lists
- Exclusions (what definitely won't be in it)

What stays a surprise

- The exact quantity of each item
- How it's plated or packaged
What we promise, in plain terms
Pickup code verification
Every order is confirmed with a 6-digit code (QR as backup) shown to the merchant at pickup, so the right order goes to the right person.
Allergens disclosed up front
Merchants list allergens and Mystery Bag details before you pay, never after.
Secure Paystack payment
Payments run through Paystack. Chop Awoof never sees or stores your card details.
Instant refund to Awoof Balance
If a merchant rejects your order or it times out, you're refunded instantly to Awoof Balance — spend it later, or request a cash payout any time.
Pickup is the only option. There is no delivery today, and none planned. Chop Awoof does not hold a food safety certification; always review each listing's allergen details before buying.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Mystery Bag?
A Mystery Bag is a fixed-price bag of surplus meals from a restaurant or buka, or near-expiry groceries from a supermarket. The merchant tells you the category (for example, rice dishes, baked goods or groceries), the minimum value you are guaranteed, the possible contents, anything that is excluded, and any allergens. The exact items inside are a surprise, but what you need to know to decide is never hidden.
Is the food safe to eat?
Every item listed is food merchants would otherwise throw away while it is still good to eat, usually because a supermarket product is near its best-before or expiry date, or a restaurant simply made more than it sold that day. Merchants disclose allergens up front. Chop Awoof does not run its own food safety certification scheme, so always check the allergen and ingredient details on each listing before you buy.
Do you deliver?
No. Chop Awoof is pickup only. You pay on the Chop Awoof website, then collect your order yourself from the merchant during their pickup window. There is no delivery option now or planned.
What if the merchant rejects my order?
If a merchant rejects your order, or it times out before they confirm it, the full amount is credited instantly to your Awoof Balance. Nothing is lost and no action is needed from you.
What is Awoof Balance?
Awoof Balance is a refund-only credit in your account. It is created automatically when an order is cancelled, rejected or times out before the merchant confirms it. You can spend it on future orders, or contact support to request it back as a bank transfer. See our Awoof Balance Terms for details.
What if I miss my pickup window?
Each offer states its pickup window clearly before you pay. Collect within that window — if you miss it, the order is marked as a no-show and the payment is not refunded, because the merchant has already set the food aside for you. If you think you will miss it, contact the merchant as early as you can; they may still be able to help once the window has started, but this is not guaranteed.
Which areas of Lagos are you in?
Chop Awoof is launching in select areas of Lagos first. We have not fixed the exact coverage yet. Check app.chopawoof.com to see what's available near you.
How do merchants join?

How do I pay?

How does pickup actually work?
After you pay, you get a 6-digit pickup code (with a QR code as a backup). Show this code to the merchant when you arrive to collect your order during the stated pickup window.
