Frequently asked questions

Everything we can tell you honestly about how Chop Awoof works, right now.

What is a Mystery Bag?

A Mystery Bag is a fixed-price bag of surplus meals from a restaurant or buka, or near-expiry groceries from a supermarket. The merchant tells you the category (for example, rice dishes, baked goods or groceries), the minimum value you are guaranteed, the possible contents, anything that is excluded, and any allergens. The exact items inside are a surprise, but what you need to know to decide is never hidden.

Is the food safe to eat?

Every item listed is food merchants would otherwise throw away while it is still good to eat, usually because a supermarket product is near its best-before or expiry date, or a restaurant simply made more than it sold that day. Merchants disclose allergens up front. Chop Awoof does not run its own food safety certification scheme, so always check the allergen and ingredient details on each listing before you buy.

Do you deliver?

No. Chop Awoof is pickup only. You pay on the Chop Awoof website, then collect your order yourself from the merchant during their pickup window. There is no delivery option now or planned.

What if the merchant rejects my order?

If a merchant rejects your order, or it times out before they confirm it, the full amount is credited instantly to your Awoof Balance. Nothing is lost and no action is needed from you.

What is Awoof Balance?

Awoof Balance is a refund-only credit in your account. It is created automatically when an order is cancelled, rejected or times out before the merchant confirms it. You can spend it on future orders, or contact support to request it back as a bank transfer. See our Awoof Balance Terms for details.

What if I miss my pickup window?

Each offer states its pickup window clearly before you pay. Collect within that window — if you miss it, the order is marked as a no-show and the payment is not refunded, because the merchant has already set the food aside for you. If you think you will miss it, contact the merchant as early as you can; they may still be able to help once the window has started, but this is not guaranteed.

Which areas of Lagos are you in?

Chop Awoof is launching in select areas of Lagos first. We have not fixed the exact coverage yet. Check app.chopawoof.com to see what's available near you.

How do merchants join?

Merchants sign up for free on the Chop Awoof merchant site, add their business details and pickup location, and upload a storefront photo and CAC certificate for review. Visit the For Merchants page to get started.

How do I pay?

You pay in Nigerian naira through Paystack at the moment you order. Chop Awoof does not store your card details.

How does pickup actually work?

After you pay, you get a 6-digit pickup code (with a QR code as a backup). Show this code to the merchant when you arrive to collect your order during the stated pickup window.
